Ex-President Serzh Sargsyan’s former chief bodyguard to remain under arrest
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction ruled on Thursday that Vachagan Ghazaryan, the former head of the security service of Armenia's ex-President Serzh Sargsyan, must be held in pre-trial arrest for another two months.
Speaking to Panorama.am, Ghazaryan’s attorney Armen Harutyunyan said the defense doesn’t accept the ruling.
“We will examine the ruling and issue a statement. We don’t agree with the ruling and are going to appeal it,” he said, adding the court has not taken into account any argument presented by the lawyers to release him.
Ghazaryan was arrested in June on charges of ‘illegal enrichment’, but later released from pre-trial custody on a bail of 1 billion drams ($2.5 million).
A higher Yerevan court ordered his rearrest in November.
