Yerevan court rejects motion to arrest ex-deputy PM
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction turned down today the motion of investigators to arrest former Deputy Prime Minister, former Secretary of Security Council Armen Gevorgyan.
“I look at everything with great optimism. The accusations are grave, but the most important thing is I don’t accept them,” he told reporters ahead of Friday’s court hearing.
The court opened hearings on the ex-official’s pre-trial arrest sought by the Special Investigative Service on Thursday.
Gevorgyan has been charged with assisting in an ‘overthrow of the constitutional order’, corruption and money laundering.
He was already charged in August with obstructing justice during the March 1-2, 2008 events that followed the presidential elections.
