Armenia's acting justice minister sums up six months in office
As a result of the new approaches adopted by the Ministry of Justice, all the repforms in the sector are implemneted through innovative methods by using the digital management tools, acting Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan told reporters on Monday, summing up his six-month tenure in the period from May to November.
The official said during six months administrative amnesty has been applied to more than 108,000 people, with over 1,260,000 proceedings dropped.
Zeynalyan noted more than 550 convicts have been released from correctional facilities across Armenia under the recently declared amnesty, while 1,000 beneficiaries of the probation service have been pardoned.
"New departments are to be established in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Goris medical facilties where convcts will be able to get treatment," he said, adding the new measure will help to provide quality medical services to more convicts with lower spendings.
Commenting on the question whether he will contonue holding the minister's office after the formation of the new government, Zeynalyan said it largely depends on the discretion of the My Step bloc that won an overwhelming majority of seats in the country's early parliamentary elections, and the prime minister.
"In the near future, it will become clear whether I will continue to serve or not," he said.
