The single mother to meet the New Year with four children taken from orphanage
Anahit Sedrakyan, 38, is a single mother. She will meet the New Year with her four children - 11-year-old twins Artur and Svetlana, 8-year-old Kristine, and 6-year-old Angelina.
After one year living at SOS Children's Village, the mother has taken the children. One of the daughters - Svetlana suffers from cerebral palsy since early childhood and attends a boarding school along sister Kristine.
Instead of getting prepared for the New Year, the young woman passes her days on roads from Mayor’s Office to the Healthcare Ministry and back as she needs an urgent surgery and wants to get
free of charge state-ordered medical aid.
Another problem Anahit faces is the housing. Unable to take care of the children’s needs without any state subsidiary she had to leave the children at the residential institution years ago. To leave the children for a longer period at the child-care center, she was asked to refuse from children in a documented form, which she declined. Today, she lives at one of her relatives in a delipidated apartment in one of Yerevan’s suburbs. Her husband left the family years ago asking to never bother him with request to take care of the kids.
“I recently I received a call from the relative asking to leave the house as they are back to Armenia.” Anahit told us. She works as a maid at a hospital. Half of the salary she gets is taken by the Enforcement Service affiliated with the Justice ministry for a loan that was not paid by the husband. These days she is trying to dispute the court decision, arguing the unpaid loan and the accumulated interests have taken place without her knowledge.
“Hay Armat” charity organization has recently donated firewood to the family that noticeably eased the burden of the woman who is struggling against diseases and daily hardships.
She is not upset that she cannot afford New Year celebrating but what is really saddening is she will not be able to buy a cake for Angelina’s birthday on January 7.
