The French city of Strasbourg paid homage to the victims of Tuesday's terrorist attack on Sunday, on a day when the Paris prosecutor announced a fifth victim had died of their injuries, Euronews reports.

The city has been trying to lift the tragedy and continue with its festive season but the sense of shock remains keen and few people expect this Christmas to be like any other, especially those who were caught up in the attack, or know someone who was hurt.

“I felt like crying and crying, it was wonderful, diverse. That child who spoke was wonderful,” said one woman.

“I think we all need to find each other, to gather, because it has been a very painful week,” said another resident.

After Cherif Chekatt was shot by police on Thursday and the Christmas market reopened on Friday, Strasbourg seemed to go back to normal, but heavily-armed police still patrol, and the country remains on its highest state of alert, "imminent attack".

Chekatt's father who along with three other family members was detained and then released, has confirmed his son had been radicalised and believed in jihad. One of Chekatt's friends remains in detention.
