Bright Armenia to nominate Mane Tandilyan for deputy parliament speaker
The Bright Armenia party that took the third place in the December 9 parliamentary elections will nominate Mane Tandilyan, a former social welfare minister, as their candidate for deputy speaker of the parliament, a spokesperson for the party, Ani Samsonyan said on Facebook.
Under the Armenian law, the National Assembly elects a speaker and three deputy speakers. The opposition is entitled to fill the position of one of three deputy speakers. They are elected and withdrawn by a majority vote of the total number of lawmakers.
Some media reports suggest that the My Step bloc that won a landslide victory in the elections plans to nominate Ararat Mirzoyan as parliament speaker, Lena Nazaryan and Alen Simonyan – as deputy parliament speakers.
The Prosperous Armenia Party elected to the parliament with over 8 percent of the vote reportedly plans to nominate Naira Zohrabyan for deputy parliament speaker.
