Armenian MFA calls for preventing arms race in the region
“The arms race in the region has always been in our agenda which has been voiced by Armenian acting foreign minister at the recent OSCE Ministerial Council,” Anna Naghdalyan, press secretary at Armenia’s MFA told reporters at a briefing on Thursday.
Naghdalyan recalled Armenian FM’s reference to the measures aimed at reducing threats which should be prioritized in the policy of each OSCE member state.
“The minister stressed that the arms sale and their delivery lead to their usage and thereby increase the threats. The OSCE member states thus should reconsider their approaches in this regard. We should note that what is a business for others turns to be a lethal tool for us,” Naghdalyan stressed, adding the arms race brings instability which should be prevented.
The Armenian official emphasized, however, that the concerns voiced by the Armenian side should not be taken as a sign of lacking capabilities and decisiveness as “the Armed Forces have the high preparedness and military technical capabilities to guarantee the security of Armenia and Artsakh.”
