MFA spox: No preconditions or threats will affect Armenia’s position in Artsakh talks
The preconditions or threats which Azerbaijan voices in the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) settlement process will no way influence Armenia’s position in the peace talks, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan said today, commenting on the recent statement by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
The Azerbaijani FM said on Tuesday Baku is ready to provide Artsakh with ‘a high level of self-government’ and ensure the security of the Artsakh Armenians just like it ensures the safety of the ethnic minorities in the country.
“There are two approaches to this statement. We can reiterate our clear-cut position on Nagorno-Karabakh’s status and security priorities in the negotiation process, giving maximum broad clarifications in both cases,” Naghdalyan told the Public TV Company of Armenia.
The spokesperson called for showing restraint especially in public statements to support the peace efforts, if there is a sincere desire to remain committed to the peace process.
“This especially refers to the cases when attempts are being made to factually represent unilateral positions as preconditions. No one has to decide the faith of the Nagorno-Karabakh people instead of them.
“Preconditions, let alone threats, will not influence our position in the negotiations. Manifestations of optimism or pessimism are equally ineffective methods in terms of leaving an impact on this process. It is important to be realistic and really committed to finding solutions acceptable to all the parties,” she stressed.
