Melendez to introduce Spanish model into Armenia football development - FFA deputy chairman
Deputy chairman of Armenia’s Football federation Armen Melikbekyan presented the upcoming initiatives and actions in the development plan of Armenia football with its new technical director Gines Melendez. At a meeting with reporters on Thursday, Melikbekyan informed that the well-known Spanish specialist, who has been recently appointed as the technical director of Armenia’s football federation, will arrive in Armenia on January 1 along with two coaches. The primary task of the new technical director is to develop a plan of actions to boost youth football in Armenia.
To note, in 2011-2018, Melendez served as technical director of the Spanish Football Federation.
“Melendez is set to work with national teams of all ages. This model operates in Spain as all the teams follow the same programme while the coaches of each team support each other. The technical director is tasked with monitoring their work,” Melikbekyan said.
Among the priority tasks outlined ahead of the football federation is the development of football in the regions. In Melikbekyan’s words only in 29 regions across the republic football tournaments are organized. Vayots Dzor province is the start destination where 10-12 new playing grounds are to be constructed for organizing tournaments.
Apart from that, the football federation has adopted new approach for investors wishing to obtain clubs in Armenia. The investors will be encouraged to take part in the development of infrastructure while the federation will support them with building stadiums.
