Criminal investigation on incitement of interethnic hatred opened after Karaganda murder
The Kazakhstan Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a criminal investigation over an incitement of interethnic hatred following the murder in the city of Karaganda on December 31.
Local media outlets cite the press release issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office, saying in the scope of the investigation into a murder, six people have been detained and an international search has been announced for the seventh suspect.
To remind, the murder of a 23-year-old local resident took place in “Old Rome” restaurant following a scuffle between two group of guests. According to the reports by local sources, three Armenians are among the suspects for committing the crime.
Ahead of the Prosecutor General’s Office statement, a group of local residents held today a rally chanting anti-Armenian calls. The Prosecutor General’s Office has called on the city resident not to yield to provocations and maintain calm. Earlier the Armenian Embassy in Kazakhstan called to not politicize the incident.
