Kazakhstan’s interior ministry guarantees ‘objective’ investigation into Karaganda incident
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan has commented on the video message posted on Facebook by Narek Gururyan, an Armenian put on the wanted list for a murderous brawl in a restaurant in the city of Karaganda, Tengrinews reports, citing Almas Sadubayev, Director of Internal and External Communications Department of the ministry.
Eight suspects, including two Armenians, have been detained after a 23-year-old Kazakh man was stabbed to death in the clash between two groups of guests during the New Year celebrations in the Ancient Rome restaurant on 1 January. 21-year-old Narek Gururyan, another suspect in the case, remains at large.
“Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs guarantees an objective and comprehensive investigation into the case and urges citizen Gururyan to surrender to police officers to avoid aggravating the circumstances. The investigation is under special control of the interior ministry,” Sadubayev was quoted as saying.
Offering his condolences to the family of the killed Kazakh man, Gururyan insisted in the message that he did not kill anyone. He expressed readiness to give himself in to the authorities of Kazakhstan if they ensure his security.
“I am ready to bear responsibility for what I did but won’t take anyone’s sin on myself. I am not a murderer," he stressed.
