Armenian, Kazakh security council chiefs discuss situation around Karaganda incident
Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan held today a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Gabit Bayzhanov, an aide to the country’s president, to discuss the recent developments in the wake of a murderous brawl in the city of Karaganda.
Eight suspects, including two Armenians, have been detained after a 23-year-old Kazakh man was stabbed to death in the clash between two groups of guests during the New Year celebrations in the Ancient Rome restaurant on 1 January. 21-year-old Narek Gururyan, the main suspect in the case, remains at large.
The Armenian national security chief conveyed his deepest condolences to the family and friends of the killed Kazakh citizen.
Both officials stressed the inadmissibility of transforming the tragedy that occurred due to a household dispute into an interethnic issue.
Grigoryan and Bayzhanov attached special importance to a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the case and brining those responsible to justice exclusively within the frames of law.
They also stressed the need to ensure continuous direct contacts between the authorities of the two countries.
