Republican spokesman: Serzh Sargsyan has never quitted active politics
Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan, the leader of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), has not left the active political life, the party’s spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters on Friday after the RPA Supreme Body session.
“Serzh Sargsyan has a lot to do and to say. He has never left the active politics. We are all a single political team, we do not fight against anyone. Our struggle is for the sake of the state and national interests of Armenia and Artsakh,” he said.
The spokesman said the RPA members discussed intra-party and organizational issues during the session, adding no changes have been made in its executive body.
He added the session also addressed the domestic situation. Among the issues discussed at the meeting were the external challenges facing the country, particularly concerns over the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict settlement.
He voiced concerns over the statement released after the recent meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs in Paris, stating it was not ‘satisfactory’. “There was no word on the three principles or any reference to the right to self-determination,” he said.
The Republican Party is also concerned about the Artsakh remarks of the former U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills and the statements of U.S. national-security adviser John Bolton during his trip to Armenia.
He stressed, however, this doesn't mean that they claim that the new authorities intend to lead the country to a failure or make unilateral concessions in the Artsakh settlement. “But we claim that the new authorities are inexperienced, as a result of which we lose our positions in the Karabakh negotiations,” he added.
He also added that the next RPA Supreme Body session is expected to be held next year, with no talk about an extraordinary session.
