UN Secretary-General hopes to see further progress in democratic development of Armenia
UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a congratulatory message to Nikol Pashinyan on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the press department at the government reports.
“The recent parliamentary elections, for which the United Nations provided technical support, marked an important milestone for the democratic development of Armenia, which I hope will see further progress in the spirit of inclusivity and transparency,” the message reads in part:
The Secretary-General next expresses confidence Armenia will continue to uphold the principles and goals of the United Nations, adding the United Nations looks forward to working closely with the Government to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, and to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights and the rule of law.
“I would like to also use this opportunity to reaffirm that the United Nations stands ready to support the significant efforts of the Co-Chairmen of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in order to help the sides achieve peace in the long-standing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” the message concluded.
