PACE Session opens in Strasbourg with new Armenian delegation in attendance
The Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will open in in Strasbourg today to run through January 25. The session will be attended by the newly-formed Armenian delegation.
To remind, our delegation is headed by Chairman of the National Assembly Standing on Foreign Affairs Ruben Rubinyan. The delegation comprises Hovhannes Igityan from the ruling My Step Alliance, Naira Zohrabyan from Prosperous Armenia party and Edmon Marukyan from Bright Armenia party.
On the first day of the session, the Assembly will discuss the snap parliamentary elections in Armenia held on December 9, 2018. The respective report will be presented by the head of PACE Observation mission during Armenian elections Aleksander Pociej.
At a short ceremony in the plenary on 21 January just before 1 pm, PACE members will pledge to take action in their national parliaments to eradicate sexism, harassment and violence against women, following the initiative by the Assembly’s President #NotInMyParliament.
The Assembly will decide its final agenda on the opening day of the session.
Other debates during the session will focus on fighting impunity by targeted sanctions in the case of Sergei Magnitsky and others, ensuring better follow-up to recommendations by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, and the progress of PACE’s monitoring procedure in 2018, together with periodic reviews of the honouring of obligations by Iceland and Italy.
