“Frontline has been quite calm since June 2018”– Defense minister briefs PM
“Addressing security challenges remains our main task,” Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan stated on Saturday during consultation with top personnel of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces.
“The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and the Artsakh Defense Army are the sole guarantors of Armenia’s and Artsakh security.” the PM added, according to the released statement by the government press service.
During the consultation, Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan briefed Nikol Pashinyan on achievements in the defense sector in the past year and presented the main priorities of 2019.
“To compare with previous years, in 2018, especially since June, we had a quite calm situation across frontline first of all conditioned with efforts of the political leadership as clearly reflected in the actions and tactics of the Armed Forces. Let me reiterate that due to its preparedness and discipline, our army is equally ready to follow political arrangements and in case of necessity take necessary means to impose peace on the adversary,” Minister Tonoyan said in his speech.
During the meeting, Minister Tonoyan informed that the changes into the army management structure are nearing their end. “Number of legislative amendments are under consideration aimed at reforming and easing the management system, the procurement policy in the defense field and increasing the combat preparedness of the Armed Forces at the same time to make army more transparent and accountable,” Tonoyan said.
As to priorities of 2019, the minister pointed to number of initiatives aimed at ranging from developing military industry to the continuous expansion of international cooperation.
