Decrease in shootings not linked to movement and reorganization of the troops, the Chief of the General Staff says
“The situation at the border is calm and no significant changes have been recorded. We have decrease in targeted shootings,” the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Artak Davtyan told reporters on Monday.
“The approach of the Armed Forces is that war can start at any time, and our military service is organized with consideration of that approach. The rest is a for the political leadership, the negotiations which are underway,” Davtyan added.
Asked about reasons for fewer shooting incidents recorded at the border, the Chief of the General Staff said: “The number of shooting at the borderline is in no way linked to the movement, reorganization of the troops or whether a war is about to start or not. That is an element of daily activity.”
Artak Davtyan next spoke of the decreased number of casualties caused by ceasefire violations by Azerbaijani side, stressing the number of ceasefire violations however has not been down.
“We have introduced changes into the organisation of the combat guard. Apart from the raising the efficiency, we have implemented number of additional measures we will publicize later. Due to those measures, the efficiency of the combat guard has raised as reflected in overall security,” added the top military.
