Bolton, Aliyev discuss Karabakh peace process
U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict settlement prospects with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday.
Bolton shared details of the conversation on Twitter, saying that they touched upon, among other things, energy and security cooperation issues.
“Today I spoke with President Aliyev of Azerbaijan. We discussed a number of shared interests, including energy security, security cooperation, and U.S. support for a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” he tweeted.

Earlier on 23 January, Bolton held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia to congratulate him on his re-appointment and applaud the Armenian people on free and fair elections in December, voicing the U.S. support for Pashinyan’s reforms agenda.
Commenting on the phone talks, Pashinyan said on Facebook that during the conversation with Bolton the two discussed the regional situation and bilateral relations, adding the Karabakh conflict was not discussed.
Separately, Bolton also talked with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze on the phone to express appreciation for the country’s recognition of the opposition leader and self-declared interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaido.

Armenia has not yet announced whether it supports Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro backed by Russia or Guaido supported by the U.S.
Asked to comment o the issue, PM Pashinyan told reporters in Moscow Armenia is following the developments in the country.
