Parliament was ignored for the first time in history – Edmon Marukyan
“The criticism about the government programme voiced thus far, specifically for not being concrete and failing to answer question about its implementation were not addressed by the government,” MP from Bright Armenia fraction at National Assembly Edmon Marukyan told reporters at a briefing on Tuesday.
To note, the parliament holds discussions on the government programme proposed by cabinet headed by Nikol Pashinyan.
In Marukyan’s words, for seven years since he has been in the parliament, this is the first case when the government programme has been submitted for a parliament debate without prior consultations with political forces.
“This is dismissive toward the parliament. I recall one year ago when Karen Karapetyan was about to bring the programme to parliament, Vache Gabrielyan [then deputy prime minister] called us asking for a meeting to discuss the programme before the actual debate in the National Assembly. … Discussions around the government programme were held with the cabinet of Hovik Abrahamyan as well. This time, the parliament was simply ignored, and this is the first case in the history,” Marukyan said.
The opposition MP declined to comment on his fraction’s vote on the programme, saying the issue has not been discussed yet.
