Nikol Pashinyan: No atmosphere of peace established in the region
The Armenian side has always stated its commitment to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Armenian PM Pashinyan stated on Tuesday at the National Assembly during the debate of the government programme.
In Pashinyan’s words, Armenia’s commitment, however, does not mean the country is not prepared for war as, regretfully, Azerbaijani is more prone for the military option.
When asked by an MP from Prosperous Armenia fraction to comment on the regular belligerent rhetoric coming from Baku, Pashinyan said: “An atmosphere of peace has not been established in the region yet first of all due to Azerbaijani aggressive rhetoric. If we expect Azerbaijan to quit its aggressive rhetoric, we should stay committed to our non-aggressive approach as well, yet it does not mean we are not prepared to adequately react to that aggressiveness,” the PM said.
Speaking of the thesis about “preparing peoples for peace,” Pashinyan highlighted the need for all involved parties to prepare all people, as the move cannot be one-sided.
“If our neighboring country prepares its people for war, logically, our reaction should be adequate. We are hopeful our neighbor will quit the tendency,” added Pashinyan.
