Belarus MFA: The post of CSTO Secretary General “not a hotel room to book”
The work of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) is not efficient due to the vacant position of the Secretary General, Belarus FMA Spokesperson Anatoly Glas stated on Thursday at a meeting with reporters. As Sputnik news agency reports, the Belarusian official has added the situation requires urgent measures to rake, reminding that the candidacy ofStanislav Zas suggested by Belarus has been approved by five members of the organisation, except Armenia.
“With this in view, Minsk is hopeful Armenia will set a date to receive Stanislav Zas. Belarus hopes for mutual understanding and notes that the post of the secretary general is not a hotel room to book. All member states are interested in resolving the matter for the technical issue to not affect the work of the organisation and bilateral relations of the member states,” the MFA official was quoted by the source.
To remind, the CSTO Collective Security Council relieved Armenia’s Yuri Khachaturov of his duties as the organization’s secretary general in November at the initiative of official Yerevan, following charges brought by Armenian Special Investigative Service against Khachaturov with overthrowing the constitutional order in 2008. Armenia earlier insisted on keeping the top CSTO post until 2020, however, the CSTO stated that due to the political situation in the country, it would be inappropriate to give up the post again to Armenia.
