Two Armenian tycoons make large donations to charity foundation of PM’s spouse
Two leading Armenian business tycoons – former Republican MP Samvel Aleksanyan and Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan – have made major donations to the City of Smile foundation launched by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s spouse Anna Hakobyan.
Founded in summer 2018, the Yerevan-based charity fund provides financial support to children with cancer. In addition, the foundation is dedicated to training doctors to provide the best cancer care in treating oncological and hematological diseases.
According to a list unveiled by the foundation on Sunday, most of its donors are Armenian businessmen, banks and large enterprises.
Aleksanyan contributed a total of 17,000,000 drams (roughly $40,000) to the fund in 2018 on behalf four enterprises belonging to him. In particular, the Aleksanyan Family charitable foundation transferred 10,000,000 drams to the fund, Alex Textile company – 2, 000,000 drams, Yerevan City company – 2,000,000 drams and Natali Pharm company – 3,000,000 drams.
Meantime, the Tsarukyan family donated some 14,000,000 drams to the City of Smile. In particular, his spouse Javahir Tsarukyan gave 5,000,000 drams to the foundation, daughter Anahit Tsarukyan – 5,000,000 drams, Gagik Tsarukyan charity fund – 2,000,000 drams and Yerevan Brandy Company – 2,000,000 drams.
In addition, Javahir Tsarukyan and Gagik Tsarukyan charity fund also donated a total of 2,000,000 drams to the foundation in 2019.
The biggest donor of the fund is Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine with 51,000,000 drams. Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin donated 47,985,000 drams to the City of Smile last year.
