“The Barber of Seville” to be performed in Yerevan
“The Barber of Seville” opera in two acts by Rossini will be performed at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan on March 3. As the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra reports, last time the opera was performed in Armenia 14 years ago, in 2005, conducted by Eduar Topchyan. Moreover, the Armenian audience has not enjoyed a comic opera for more than two decades.
The opera features tenor Liparit Avetisyan (Count Almaviva), baritone Gianpiero Ruggeri (Figaro), bass Vazgen Gazaryan (Bartolo), soprano Anna Kasyan (Rosina), Evgeny Stavinsky (Basilio), soprano Alina Pahlevanyan (Berta), baritone Kim Sarg (Fiorello). Artistic Director and Choirmaster is Sona Hovhannisyan and Suren Shahidjanian acts as stage director.
Rossini's Barber has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music and has been described as the opera buffa of all "opere buffe". After two hundred years, it remains a popular work.
