James Appathurai: There will be no successful military solution to Karabakh conflict
There can be no successful military solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai stated on Monday at a press conference in Yerevan.
“It is clearly the NATO’s assessment that there can be only a peaceful resolution to this dispute. There will be no successful military solution to this dispture. This is the message we can convey and I personally convey to all parties,” Appathurai stated.
The NATO official reminded that the military organisation is not engaged in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, adding however that peace and security in the region is in the direct interest of NATO allies and partners.
Appathurai added that the NATO is “encouraged that the new government of Armenia has put an energy into the political process [of the NK settlement] and by the recent meetings at the highest level tries to address this issue.”
To remind, Appathurai is visiting Armenia in the framework of the “NATO Week” underway in Armenia.
