A soldier of the Armenian Armed Forces died on Tuesday after accidentally falling into a gorge, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee Naira Harutyunyan told Panorama.am.

The private identified as Hamlet Avagyan, 19, who was also a medic, suffered fatal injuries after slipping and falling into a gorge while heading from one military unit to another, she said.

Authorities are preparing materials on the incident.

Earlier on Monday, Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan took to Facebook to first report the soldier’s death, noting the incident occurred in the north-eastern border of the country.

He only said that 'the adversary's gunfire was not the cause of the serviceman’s death,' adding further details will be provided by the competent bodes.

The spokesman also offered condolences to the family of the deceased.
