Dismantling works resume near the Opera house in Yerevan
The Yerevan Municipality resumed on Friday morning the dismantling of several cafes located in the vicinity of the Opera House in downtown Yerevan as part of a program to restore the green zone around the building. The dismantling of the cafes started on Wednesday, four weeks after the Yerevan Municipality formally notified the cafe owners to vacate the premises, since the city is halting its lease contracts.
Unlike the previous days, the owners and employees of the cafes have staged no protests against the dismantling order so far. Viktor Mnatsakanyan, the head of Kentron administrative district is at the scene and talked to reporters about the dismantled property.
“Different charity organizations have contacted us to obtain the dismantled property. In particular, tourist roads and bridges are prepared in Artsakh and some companies have expressed desire to discuss the possibility of obtaining them. Some of the property will be stored at the premises of Yerevan Trans LTD. Some property will be transferred to kindergartens and orphanages. Every item will be catalogued,” Mnatsakanyan said.
