President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev resigns
Nursultan Nazarbayev, the president of Kazakhstan, said on Tuesday he was resigning as the Central Asian nation’s leader after three decades in power, Reuters reported.
"I have made the decision to end my tenure as president," 78-year-old Nazarbayev said in his televised address.
The speaker of the country's senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will execute the office of the president until a new president is elected. Nazarbayev had been the leader of Kazakhstan since 1990. He was on his fifth term when he resigned.
