Armenia’s economic competition commission studying aviation fuel market with Georgian side
Armenia's State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) has launched a study in the aviation fuel market in an attempt to reveal the possible competitive problems in the field of jet fuel circulation.
The study is specifically important since the aviation fuel prices greatly affect the prices of air tickets, SCPEC told Panorama.am.
The commission says currently Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport is the only importer of aviation fuel to Armenia.
The studies of the commission reveal that the lack of competition in the aviation fuel circulation field is conditioned by fuel transportation problems in Georgia.
In particular, the transportation of aviation fuel via Georgia is being carried out through the Georgian railroad which cooperates with a strictly limited number of companies. As a result, all those companies seeking to import aviation fuel have no opportunity to carry out supplies for the Armenian market, as there is no other economically viable alternative to the Georgian railroad.
Taking all this into account, SCPEC has applied to the Georgian competition body to jointly observe these problems and take effective steps to deal with them.
