Two Armenian players claim victories at third round of European Individual Chess C'ship
Round 3 of the European Individual Chess Championship 2019 being held in Skopje, Macedonia, was victorious for two Armenian players, the National Olympic Committee reported.
Robert Hovhannisyan and Haik Martirosyan won their games in the round played on Wednesday, while Armenia’s new champion Arman Pashikian suffered a defeat.
Five other Armenian players, Sergei Movsesian, Hrant Melkumyan, Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Manuel Petrosyan and Shant Sargsyan, drew in the third round.
In Round 4, Shant Sargsyan is set to compete with Robert Hovhannisyan with white pieces.
The European Individual Chess Championship 2019 is a qualification event for the FIDE World Cup 2019. According to FIDE regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, 22 players will qualify out of the total of 357 participants.
Total prize fund of the event will be €100.000 with €20.000 reserved for the winner of the event. Together with 20 regular prizes, organisers provided special prizes for the best male and female junior players, best senior players and best women players.
