Deputy foreign minister hopes CEPA ratification to be completed by the end of the year
The signing and ratification of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will elevate the relations between Armenia and the European Union to a new level. The Agreement will serve as a tool for our reforms to be targeted,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Avet Adonts told reporters at a briefing on Friday.
As to the visa liberalization talks, the deputy minister said the matter remained an agenda issue in talks not only with Brussels but also individual member states of the EU.
“We have entered a phase of consultations with all. We have agreements and disagreements. The EU member states are not satisfied with results of visa liberalization with Ukraine and Georgia. However we do not share the approach and that should not serve basis in our talks,” Adonts said.
The deputy minister clarified that any visa and entry liberalization Agreement is signed along with Readmission Agreements: “If people are leaving for a country without a visa or stay longer than the visa period, that is to say illegally, the Readmission Agreements works facilitating the return of people residing irregularly in a country to their country of origin.”
As to the ratification of the CEPA by the EU members states, Avet Adonts expressed hope to see the process completed by the end of the year.
