Imports of wiretapping devices banned in Armenia – security chief
It is no longer possible to import wiretapping devices to Armenia, Director of the National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan said at Friday’s meeting of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs.
“Imports of such devices are banned by the law. Only structures carrying out intelligence activity are authorized to import them,” he said, stressing such attempts will be thwarted both by agents of the customs service and National Security Service.
The security chief could not state whether wiretapping devices were imported to Armenia previously. “Believe me, all the necessary measures are in place. We have certain information which is being checked at the moment. We will unveil concrete results immediately after having them,” he stressed.
Commenting on the high-profile wiretapping case involving him and the head of the Special Investigative Service, Vanetsyan said the probe into the case continues, but refused to disclose more details to maintain the confidentiality of the investigation.
