Republic-wide clean-up kicks off in Armenia
Within the frames of “Clean Armenia” program, on March 23, from early morning the republic-wide clean-up activities, involving 10 regions and 500 communities across the country, started in Armenia.
As earlier the Minister of Territorial Administration and Development Suren Papikyan had told reporters, around 125-150 thousand citizens are expected to take part in the clean-up across the republic with involvement of 1700 units of equipment.
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan is taking part in the clean-up with his family in capital Yerevan, where main activities are concentrated in public areas, lawns, parks and squares.
The speaker of the National Assembly (NA) Ararat Mirzoyan, MPs have jointed the Community Cleanup Day and are in the adjacent park of Vardan Mamikonyan statue, cleaning up the area and planting trees. Overall, around 5000 trees are to be planted in Yerevan throughout the day, the Yerevan Municipality reported.
Pashinyan who was initially set to participate in the ground breaking ceremony of Hamazgayin State Theatre after Sos Sargsyan, postponed the official ceremony and joined the cleaning works.
“When I approached the area where the ceremony was planned I noticed the waste surrounding the place. I thought it was impossible to hold any event as it would be disrespect of memory to Sos Sargsyan first. I was about to leave for Kotayk region for a clean-up day, telling the organizers to clean the area before the ceremony. Then, I thought I could do that myself,” Pashinyan told reporters.
