MP calls for the National Assembly to issue statement on the anniversary of Maragha Genocide
MP from Prosperous Armenia fraction Arman Abovyan has come up with an initiative to issue a special statement on behalf of the National Assembly of Armenia to commemorate the victims of the Maragha Genocide . “Both Azerbaijan and Turkey continue employing lies to justify the long-practiced policy of hatred against Armenians. On April 10, we will commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Maragha Genocide, and it is important for the National Assembly to issue a special statement and hold commemorative events to mark the date,” the MP said during a speech at parliament on Tuesday.
In Abovyan’s words, the move will once again show to the international community the real face of the country community we are trying to reach certain agreements with.
The massacre of the inhabitants of the village of Maragha of the Artsakh Republic's Martakert region, committed by the Azerbaijani army is one of the most tragic episodes of Azerbaijan's military aggression
The Azerbaijani troops invaded the village of Maragha on April 10, 1992, where 118 people remained, mostly the elderly, disabled, women, and children. As a result of the war crime committed with unprecedented cruelty, over 50 people were killed and the rest, including 9 children and 29 women, were taken hostage. Some of them were later returned, but the fate of 19 hostages remains unknown to this day.
