Armenia enjoys greater respect at CSTO now, Pashinyan says
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan disagrees with the claims that Armenia has failed at the Russia-based Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Speaking at the parliament on Thursday, the PM stated that the country has actually succeeded in the organization, stressing Armenia’s voice is today heard in the CSTO.
“We are saying what we have to say and allow me to claim that respect towards us has grown,” Pashinyan said.
He added that whether Armenia has served a month longer or shorter in the office of the CSTO secretary general is not an assessment standard for him.
Separately, commenting on Armenia’s dispatching a humanitarian mission in Syria, the PM stressed the decision was made proceeding from the county’s sovereignty and historical mission.
According to him, if an Armenian medic of the mission saves the life of a person whose ancestors helped the Armenian Genocide survivors in 1915, it means Armenia repays the historic debt to the Syrian people.
“If in a de-mining zone, where children are playing, our experts are clearing 100 square meters of area for the grandchildren of those people who at a time gave refuge to our compatriots having survived the Armenian Genocide, I think this is a historic mission that we are carrying out in Syria,” he stressed.
Pashinyan did not rule out that the mission has risks but expressed confidence that it increases the sovereignty of Armenia.
