Nothing forgotten – President Sarkissian receives April War veterans
“The war is won not only by weapons but also by spirit, heart and mind. If one of these components misses, you become vulnerable,” Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said on Friday at a meeting with April Four-Day War veterans hosted at the President’s Office.
“If there is only the heart, you are a patriotic who can move forward bravely and fall on the battlefield. If you have the mind it may happen you are unable to cross certain lines out of common sense. Whenever these two are linked it becomes the key to victory. Be sure what you did was done for the motherland and also for you. When I was young, I was quite impressed with a quote by Napoleon Bonaparte saying he used to plan the battle, including all possible scenarios of the defeat – that is to say I do not plan to win yet rule out the failure,” President Sarkissian said.
As the press department at the President’s Office reported, the April War veterans had established “Union of April War Participants” NGO and shared with the president their upcoming plans.
Recalling the April Four-Day, the president praised the veterans’ dedication to the motherland.
“There is clear truth that what happened in those days remains in the hearts and minds of our people. Nothing is forgotten and will be forgotten. Your union is valuable as winners are those who are always ready to win,” said President Sarkissian. He next added that the bravery shown by the April War participants at the expense of their life and health serves as an example of patriotism for the new generation.
The veterans, in turn, noted that through initiating the union their aim is to unite all servicemen who served during the April War, stand by all families whose sons fell at the battlefield and support them.
