Yerevan to turn off main street lights on Saturday for Earth Hour initiative
Armenia will join the Earth Hour global environmental initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for the 11th time on Saturday, March 30.
The lights of the main streets and external lighting of buildings in capital Yerevan will be switched off from 8:30pm to 9:30pm to show support for stopping climate change, the Yerevan Municipality said.
The event in Yerevan is organized by WWF-Armenia.
The Municipality urges all to join the global initiative.
The Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 when 2 million people switched off their lights to show their support for decisive action on climate change.
Year by year the event is getting bigger and more popular by involving more than 1 billion people in the world.
