NSS releases details about arrest of Armenia’s deputy health minister
Armenia’s deputy health minister has been arrested for receiving large bribes from the director of a medical facility, the National Security Service (NSS) said in a statement on Monday.
The statement fails to name the suspect, but earlier media reports suggested the arrested deputy minister was Arsen Davtyan, who was appointed to the post in 2018.
Due to large-scale intelligence operations, the security service revealed that the director of the medical facility sought to gain the deputy minister’s patronage and to develop favorable working conditions with him.
The minister was caught taking a bribe from the director at his office by security agents on March 30.
A criminal case has been launched into taking and giving bribes in large amounts.
The deputy minister has been placed under arrest, while the medical facility’s head has been banned from leaving the country, the statement said.
A probe is underway, with measures being taken to reveal other individuals involved in the case and other corruption offences in the health sector.
