Armenian orchestra to perform Mahler's Symphony No. 9 on April 6
The Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Sergey Smbatyan, will present Symphony No. 9, a world masterpiece by Gustav Mahler, to classical music lovers in Armenia.
The concert is scheduled to be held at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on Saturday, April 6, the orchestra’s press service said.
The State Symphony Orchestra has so far presented Symphonies No. 1, 5 and 6 to Armenian audiences.
Mahler composed his Symphony No. 9 in the last few years of his life between 1908 and 1909. It is actually his tenth symphonic work, as Mahler gave no ordinal number to his symphonic song-cycle Das Lied von der Erde. A typical performance takes about 75 to 90 minutes.
The symphony premiered in Vienna in 1912, after the composer’s death.
