Armenian president holds meeting with UN Secretary-General
President Armen Sarkissian who is attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Middle East and North Africa in Jordan, met on Saturday with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. As the press department at the President’s Office reported, President Sarkissian highlighted the cooperation with the UN, stressing Armenia is actively involved in works of the organization and its agencies.
“We have comprehensive and efficient cooperation agenda with the UN and a desire to further enhance it especially within the scope of UNICEFF and UNESCO,” the president is quoted by the press service.
Armen Sarkissian next pointed to the personal contribution of the Secretary General in the activities of
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation where he had served in the Board of trustees for long years.
The president also praised the UN’s support to the OSCE Minsk Co-Chairs’ efforts as the only structure internationally mandated to solve the NK peace process. In this context the interlocutors welcomed the recent meeting between Armenian Prime Minister and Azerbaijani president, stressing there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement and negotiated settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
