Armenian parliament adopts bill on Citizen’s Day in the first reading
The Armenian National Assembly adopted in the first reading a draft law proposing to declare the last Saturday of April as Citizen’s Day in the country at a session on Monday, April 8.
Ahead of the vote, Bright Armenia lawmaker Gevorg Gorgisyan announced his faction’s decision to miss the voting on the bill.
The bill passed the parliamentary reading in a vote of 92 for and 3 against, with 5 abstentions.
The designation of a special day honouring Armenian citizens is conditioned with the mass civil disobedience campaign and ‘velvet revolution’ in Armenia in April-May 2018.
In case May 1 falls on Saturday, the Citizen’s Day will be celebrated on the last Sunday of April.
