Court hearing on Kocharyan’s appeal over arrest extension to continue tomorrow
The Yerevan Criminal Court of Appeals will continue the hearing of the case brought by ex-president Robert Kocharyan’s defense team against the ruling of a lower court to extend his arrest tomorrow. As one of the lawyers Aram Orbelyan told reporters, during today’s hearing the court reviewed objections to lawyers’ appeal which will continue tomorrow at 12:30 pm.
“Mr Kocharyan was present at the hearing, made remarks on separate issues, yet he has not made a concluding statement, ” Orbelyan said, adding a legal process was underway behind the doors not political debates even if the case has a political element.
To remind, the ex-president has been placed in custody since December 7, 2018, pending trial. He is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 1-2, 2008 post-election events in Yerevan, but strongly denies any wrongdoing.
