Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responds to Armenian PM’s proposal
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has commented on the recent statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposing the country to stop “the use of force, threats and bellicose rhetoric”.
In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry advised the Armenian PM to get acquainted with the OSCE Helsinki Final Act of 1975, in particular the principle of “refraining from the threat or use of force.”
“We call on the Armenian prime minister, who proposes to refrain from use of force, to take immediate steps in accordance with the demands of the international community to withdraw the armed forces of his country from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in order to ensure lasting peace, security and prosperity in the region,” reads the statement.
In a joint news conference with Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland in Strasbourg on Thursday, Pashinyan proposed Baku to abandon the “language of threats”, expressing hope that Azerbaijan will address the call.
“We want our societies prepared for peace, and I do hope that our partners in Azerbaijan will do the same. If so, we will have quite a different situation,” he stressed.
