Yerevan court rejects appeal on dropping criminal charges against Kocharyan
The Yerevan Criminal Court of Appeals on Friday turned down the appeal of second President Robert Kocharyan’s attorneys on dropping criminal prosecution against the former president.
The defense lawyers argued that Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code (overthrowing the constitutional order) is not applicable for the ex-president due to his immunity from prosecution.
On Thursday, the Yerevan court also rejected the defense appeal against the ruling to extend Kocharyan’s pre-trial arrest for another two months.
Kocharyan, who is charged with overthrowing Armenia's constitutional order in the period of the 2008 post-election events, has been placed in custody since December 7, 2018, pending trial.
The former president strongly denies any wrongdoing.
