Villagers block rail track, republican highway as tensions grow following overnight shooting
The residents of Zartonk village in Armenia’s Armavir province has blocked the railway and the republican highway since early morning calling for the law enforcement to investigate the overnight shooting and hold perpetrators to account. According to reports, large number of police officers are at the scene, trying to calm the demonstrations.
As Panorama.am was told at Police, official release about the incident will be issued later today.
Initial reports suggest the shooting incident occurred between two groups of residents with one reportedly related to the village mayor and his relatives. As a result of the shooting several people have been injured and transferred to nearby hospitals. The villagers demand the government officials to launch investigation over the incident.
