Armenians hold candlelight vigil outside White House, demanding Genocide recognition
A candlelight vigil paying tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims was held outside the U.S. White House on Sunday.
The vigil reminded the U.S. president of the demand to recognize the Armenian Genocide as an important tool to restore the historical justice and prevent such tragedies in the future, the Voice of America Armenian Service reported.
This time the participants of the event also expressed a special gratitude to those U.S. states, namely Alabama, California, Mississippi, New York and Virginia, that greatly contributed to the efforts to help the Armenian people who had suffered from the genocide a century ago.
From 1916 to 1930, American citizens provided around $2.6 billion in aid to the Armenian Genocide survivors, a sum almost equaling to today’s state budget of Armenia.
And on Sunday, the descendants of the Armenians who were rescued due to that support assembled in front of the White House in the U.S. capital to once again voice their demand for historical justice, the service said.
