Armenia’s SIS presses charges against former Chief of Compulsory Enforcement Service, issues arrest warrant
The Special Investigative Committee of Armenia has pressed charges against Mihran Poghosyan, Major-General of Justice and former Chief of Compulsory Enforcement Service who served at the position from 2008 to 2016.
The criminal case has been initiated according to Part 1 of Article 179 of the RA Criminal Code which is squandering or embezzlement with abuse of official position as well as Part 2 of Article 309 - abuse of official authority or duties by a state official. According to SIS, actions ascribed to Poghosyan have caused some 44.199.463 AMD in damage to the state budget.
One episode of the brought charges relates to the reports of the Panama Papers that revealed Poghosyan had shares in three offshore companies and that he was using his position to advance his business interests while concealing his income.
The SIS petitioned the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction to hear the motion to remand Poghosyan in pre-trial custody and issued arrest warrant for him.
