Armenia’s security chief says NSS knows where former official facing corruption charges is
The Armenian National Security Service (NSS) is aware of whereabouts of Mihran Poghosyan, the former chief of the Compulsory Enforcement Service slapped with corruption charges, NSS Director Artur Vanesyan told reporters on Tuesday.
“Arrest warrant has been issued for him, works are underway, you will be informed later,” he said.
The Special Investigative Service (SIS) said on Monday that Poghosyan had abused his official powers and embezzled property in large amounts to enrich himself and companies linked to him.
According to SIS, the actions ascribed to the former official have caused some 44,199,463 drams in damage to the state.
One episode of the brought charges relates to the reports of the Panama Papers that revealed Poghosyan had shares in three offshore companies and that he was using his position to advance his business interests while concealing his income.
The SIS petitioned the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction to hear the motion to remand Poghosyan in pre-trial custody and issued arrest warrant for him.
