Cabinet does not consider changing school education system of 12 years, minister says
The Armenian government does not consider changing the 12-year education system in the schools, the Minister of Education and Sciences Arayik Harutyunyan stated on Wednesday at the Q/A session in Parliament.
In request to comment on upcoming education reforms with regards to t school education, Minister Harutyunyan said: “There is no question of changing the education model in Armenian schools in our agenda. From the first day when I was appointed to the post of the minister, speculations about changing the system have been disseminated and there has been an impression we are considering it. In reality, we received such proposals to review, yet we didn’t take it seriously. Quite the opposite, today we are working hard to increase the role of high schools in our education system.”
To note, the current national curriculum for general education in Armenia is based on a twelve-year general programme adopted in 2006, which consists of compulsory primary (grades 1 to 4), compulsory lower secondary (grades 5 to 9) and upper secondary (high school, grades 10 – 12) education.
