The Armenian National Security Service (NSS) has launched a criminal investigation against the head of the RA State Oversight Service Davit Sanasaryan, the security agency reported in a released statement.

The criminal case is initiated by features of Part1 of Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code which is abuse of official authority or duties by a state official for mercenary interests, personal, other interests
or group interests, which caused essential damage to the legal interests of citizens, organizations, public
or state rights.

According to the NSS release, Sanasaryan has been suspended from office and by the prosecutor supervising the preliminary investigation of the criminal case proceedings, the chosen a restricted residence has been applied as a measure of restraint, which has been communicated to the Prime Minister of Armenia.

To note,  charges brought against Sansaryan are part of the criminal case launched on February 25, 2019 involving two officers of the Oversight Service suspected in misconduct.

As reported earlier, according to the obtained information, the acting head of the Procurement Process Control Department of the State Oversight Service reached a prior agreement with the chief expert of the same department and stemming from personal interests, abused their power to interfere illegally into the state procurement of equipment for medical facilities aimed at ensuring victory of the company sponsored by them in the tender in 2018-2019.The two officials, as well as the representative of the sponsored company, were arrested on 25 February.

Note. A person that is suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent unless his/her guilt is not proved by court judgment that has come into legal effect pursuant to the procedure determined by RA Criminal Procedure Code.
