EU and Council of Europe to allocate €2,3 million for Partnership for Good Governance programme
The representatives of the European Union and the Council of Europe presented today the launch of the second phase of Partnership for Good Governance programme which will be implemented in 2019-2021 in Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries, including Armenia.
The two projects as part of the programme will be aimed at fighting against corruption, fostering good governance against money-laundering as well as strengthening the independence and efficiency of justice. The total budget of the programme is € 2,3 million funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The programme was presented by the Head of Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law at Council of Europe Mikhail Lobov, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Voutova, Gonzalo Serrano De La Rosa, Head of Co-operation Section at the European Union Delegation in Armenia, Deputy Minister of Justice Vigen Kocharyan, and Head of Europe Department at the ministry of foreign affairs Tigran Samvelyan.
As Deputy Minister Kocharyan told Panorama.am, the programme focuses on implementing domestic reforms to bring them closer to the standards of the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Union in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
The projects in Armenia will specifically focus on strengthening the efficiency of justice and promoting penitentiary reforms. As to the fight against corruption the assistance is aimed at establishing institutional frameworks with the consultative support from partners.
